Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are Bag Filters and how do they work? +

Bag filters are used to capture particulate from liquid or air streams by directing the flow through a fabric filter bag. As the fluid passes through the bag, solids are trapped either on the surface or within the depth of the media, depending on the material and construction.

Bag filters are available in a wide range of materials, micron ratings, and configurations to suit different applications—whether you need surface filtration for larger particles or depth filtration for finer contaminants. Their versatility and ease of use make them a reliable solution for many industrial processes.

2. Which applications are Bag Filters suited for? +

Bag filters are ideal for a wide range of liquid applications, including the filtration of oils, solvents, water, and wastewater. Their versatility, material options, and ability to handle both coarse and fine particulate make them a reliable choice for many industrial liquid-processing systems.

3. How do I choose the right Material and Micron Rating for my Application? +

Selecting the correct bag filter material and micron rating depends on several key factors. The filter media should be chosen based on the type of liquid being processed, the chemistry and pH of that liquid, and the operating temperature of the system. From there, the micron rating is determined by the size of the particulate you need to remove and the level of filtration required for your process.

If you’re unsure or would like guidance on choosing the best media and micron for your application, speak with one of our Application Engineers today. Our team can review your process and recommend the most suitable material and micron rating to ensure optimal performance.

4. Is there a shelf life to my Bag Filters? +

As long as the Filters are stored in a dry area, away from any Chemicals/Solvents and fluctuating temperatures, the Filters should have no expiration.

6. Why aren’t my Bag Filters lasting as long as they used to? +

Bag filter life isn’t determined by the number of hours or days they’re in service—it’s determined by the amount of particulate they capture. If your process is generating more solids, or if contamination levels have increased, the bags will naturally plug faster and won’t last as long.

It’s also important to consider whether anything in your process has changed. Has the liquid chemistry, viscosity, or particulate load shifted? Are you still operating under the same flow rates and run times as before? Even small process changes can significantly impact bag life.

If you’d like help identifying the cause or optimizing bag life, our Application Engineers are available to review your process. Please give us a call.

7. Can I get a customized Bag Filter? +

Yes, absolutely. We can customize a bag filter to fit nearly any specification you require whether it’s unique dimensions, specialized materials, additional stitching, or other design features.

Every application is different, and so is every filter. The team at East Coast Filter, Inc. will work one-on-one with you to design the perfect bag filter tailored to your process requirements.
