	All Teflon/PFA Media The Citadel Pleated Membrane Cartridges feature a PTFE Membrane and PFA Structural components to provide excellent chemical and temperature resistance for aggressive chemical applications such as Etchers, Strippers, Cleaners, and Bulk Chemicals.

	Beverage Grade Provide highly consistent performance for bioburden reduction and particle removal across a wide range of beverage, pharmaceutical and biological fluids. The hydrophilic PES Membrane filters provide exceptional flow rates, long on-stream life, broad chemical compatibility and have no added surfactants to contribute to extracables.

	Economy Purpose Water Grade The WaterTEC Filter series is constructed of absolute rated, hydrophilic asymmetric Polyethersulfone membrane and Polypropylene components. This filter is designed for overall filtration economy and provides excellent flow rates and throughputs.

	Electronics Grade The filters are inherently hydrophilic and contain no added surfactants or wetting agents that could contaminate pure and ultrapure water streams, The PES membrane offers superior flow characteristics, high contaminant capacity and consistent removal of sub micron particles.

	General Purpose Water Grade This pleated disposable filter element is constructed of absolute rated, hydrophilic asymmetric Polyethersulfone membrane with extended filter area to allow for high system flow rate.

	Nylon 6,6 Membrane The Nylon 6,6 Membrane Cartridges are compatible with a wide range of applications such as DI Water, Process Filtration, Chemicals, Electronics and Food & Beverage. Because of this, the filters are resistant to mechanical, chemical and thermal stress.

	Pharmaceutical Grade ZTEC P Sterilizing Grade Membrane Cartridges are HIMA validated for complete bacterial retention to yield product sterility in biopharmaceutical final filtration applications.

	PTFE/Teflon TefTEC Cartridge Filters are constructed with naturally hydrophobic PTFE Membrane and Polypropylene support layers and components.

	Wine and Beer Grade ZTEC WB Cartridge Filters utilize a Polyethersulfone Membrane to provide consistent removal of spoilage organisms and inorganic particulate which offers excellent retention efficiency making it an ideal filter for clarification of beer, wine and bottled water.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I get PES Membrane Filter in a 1 or 5 Micron? +

A PES (Polyethersulfone) Membrane is constructed using a phase inversion process where the Resin is dissolved into a Polymer Solution, cast in a Thin Film and then submerged in a water bath where the solvent exchanges with water, forming a tight filtration layer with a more open porous support beneath. After rinsing and drying, the Membrane is rolled, tested and converted into Cartridges.

Membranes aren’t available in anything that is 1 Micron or larger because of the phase Inversion process because of how it only produces a very tight, uniform pore structure. Once you get close to 0.8-1 Micron, the membrane begins to act like a Depth Filter and loses the precision, strength, and integrity-testability required for true Membrane performance. Larger pore sizes must be made using Meltblown or other Depth Style Medias, not Membrane Technology.

2. What are the different types of membranes available? +

East Coast Filter, Inc. offers PES (Polyethersulfone), PS (Polysulfone, NY 6,6 (Nylon 6,6) and PTFE (Teflon) Membrane Cartridges.

3. Why should I select a PES, PS, NY or PTFE material in my application? +

PES (Polyethersulfone) is a very durable hydrophilic media that is chemically resistant to both acids and bases. best used with water based solutions. Ideal for the pharmaceutical as well as food and beverage industries.

PS (Polysulfone) Cartridges are a cost effective alternative to utilizing Cartridges constructed with PES Media for non-critical applications. The PS Media is available in both hydrophilic and hydrophobic grades which both offer good strength and thermal stability. Micron specific, offer higher flow vs pressure drop.

NY (Nylon 6,6) Nylon 6,6 membranes are commonly used in water, chemical, pharmaceutical, and fermentation applications due to their high mechanical strength, excellent temperature resistance, and fine particulate retention capabilities. Positively charged Nylon 6,6 membrane media is also widely used for endotoxin reduction and removal in pharmaceutical and fermentation processes, while providing efficient filtration performance in critical liquid processing applications.

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE/Teflon®) membrane is best used in applications involving aggressive chemicals and solvents, harsh operating environments, and elevated temperatures. Because PTFE membrane is naturally hydrophobic, it is ideal for air and gas filtration applications. PTFE membrane also offers excellent chemical resistance, high filtration efficiency, and superior performance in demanding pharmaceutical, chemical processing, fermentation, and high-purity applications.

4. What is the difference between a Hydrophilic and Hydrophobic Membrane? +

Hydrophilic Membranes are “water loving”, meaning that the membrane allows water to pass through it with extreme ease and little to no pressure. These Membranes are typically used in water based filtration applications including Sterile Filtration, Pharmaceutical, as well as Food and Beverage.

Hydrophobic Membranes are “water hating”, meaning that the membrane repels water. This material does not absorb water unless it is forced under intense high pressure. Because of this, these Membranes are ideal for uses with air, gas and solvent applications including the use as Vent Filters.
